A Short Introduction to Joplin
From the website:
Joplin is an open source note-taking app. Capture your thoughts and securely access them from any device.
Well that says it all. It is an open source alternative to Evernote or that horrible notes thing by Microsoft, which allows you to use your notebooks on any device. Notes are saved in Markdown. One powerful feature of Joplin is that you can configure it to synchronize to any remote service you like, including Group-Office.
Preparing Group-Office
First you need to make sure that WebDAV is enabled and working. If you use the Docker environment or the .deb package, this should work out of the box.
Open the files module or use your favourite WebDAV client. In your personal Group-Office folder, create a subfolder. For the sake of this article, we will simply call it "joplin".
Set up Joplin
If you haven't already, it is advisable to set up End-To-End Encryption first. The next step is to setup WebDAV. In the main menu, open the Options screen. Having done that, select the tab "Synchronization". Set the following options:
- Synchronization target: WebDAV
- Webdav URL: This should be the full URL to your WebDAV endpoint, appended with your user name and the path within your user folder, e.g. https://group-office.example.com/webdav/you/joplin.
- WebDAV username: Your Group-Office username
- WebDAV password: Your Group-Office password
You can test the connection by clicking the button 'Check synchronization configuration'. Save the settings by clicking 'Ok' or 'Apply' and the notes should start synchronizing within minutes.
One final note: as yet there is no way to manage Joplin notes or note books in Group-Office. This would be an awesome feature, but the current target audience is one person.
